Merry Mission:
PPG Aerospace Provides Protective Coating to Help Keep Toys for Tots Plane Flying in Optimum Shape
Source: PPG Industries
TROY, Mich., Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- PPG Aerospace - PRC-DeSoto, the
aerospace unit of PPG Industries, was able to help lift holiday spirits this
year by supplying its TRANSSEAL(R) temporary protective coating to the
aircraft that was deployed by Operation Interdependence to support the United
States Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
Operation Interdependence -- a civilian-to-military delivery system that
serves as a program for Americans to demonstrate their support for deployed
military -- teamed up with Toys for Tots earlier this month for a promotional
flight that stopped in cities nationwide to help raise toy donations for needy
children.
PPG Aerospace, an exclusive distributor of Groco Specialty Coatings,
supplied TRANSSEAL -- an environmentally-friendly temporary protective coating
-- for the aircraft's logos, which provided superior protection against nicks,
scratches and abrasions. This allowed the plane's design to retain its luster
and complete its cross-country holiday trek in tip-top shape from start to
finish.
"PPG is proud to work with organizations such as Operation Interdependence
on programs that make a difference to those who are less fortunate, as well as
to our troops abroad," said Scott A. Follett, global director, PPG Total
Service Solutions. "This program allowed us to lend a helping hand this
holiday season while demonstrating a unique temporary coating that provides
superior quality and can be easily removed with no detrimental effects to the
underlying paint system."
PPG Aerospace distributes Groco products from its global network of 16
application support centers, providing aerospace customers around the world
with on-site representation and technical service.
Operation Interdependence's 2004 campaign provided an exciting promotional
flight that stopped in 17 states and 18 cities nationwide, promoting the
United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. The flight encouraged
people to meet the aircraft and donate a toy and send their personal greeting
along with a small care package to our troops overseas.
The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to
collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year
and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the
community in which the campaign is conducted.
The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy
at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to
grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.
